GBL Rec League Overview 2017-2018 Season:
GBL rec league is the cornerstone of GBL. The league promotes friendly competition for ALL interested players in Guilford from grades 3-8. We hope this exposure leads to early engagement for as many players as possible. Teams generally practice once a week (depending on availability due to weather and school closures or conflicts) and play games on Saturdays. ALL COACHES are required to use a mandatory rotation schedule in games that ensures equitable playing time for all participants. Weather permitting, teams usually are scheduled for a total of 10 games. We cannot make up cancelled games by extending season. Teams in each league participate in playoffs towards the end of the season. Championship games are held during the week during the final week of the season.
Players are asked to attend a preseason evaluation session so that coaches can rate players. GBL uses a BLIND DRAFT to select teams to ensure as much balance and fairness to the process as possible.
